Widely Used Variety of Pasta

Who doesn’t love pasta? It feels like pasta have become part of our lives forever. It is indeed simple to make fresh in just a short period of time and depends on how it is being used, it can be rich and filling or light and healthy as well. Because of the elegant simplicity of the farmer’s dish on pasta, it has been used by many most famous restaurants globally.

Through Italy food tours, you would be able to see every kinds of pasta in every small or tiny shop in the place. In the supermarket, you will be able to find hundreds type of pasta. Outside Italy only a few of pasta are widely known – spaghetti and lasagna being the most known. These pastas are used wrongly by the people. As an example would be the Bolognese sauce with the spaghetti should not be done since the spaghetti pasta is far too thin and also the meat would not be able to stick on it.

Thus, to get straight, here are the description of the five basic types of pasta and their uses.

The first basic type of pasta is Farfalle. Farfalle which is translated as “bow-tie” due to its bow tie shape. This kind of pasta is best served covered with a butter and garlic sauce and can be accompanied with meat such as sausage, grilled chicken or ground beef. Due to the shape and rich texture of the pasta, it taste well with tomato, cheese sauces and vegetables.

Second on the list would be Capellini. This pasta is called as “angel hair”. Same as spaghetti, Capellini is a long and thin kind of pasta however it is finer compared to the spaghetti but it cannot hold meat or vegetable sauces. The pasta can be used in broths and soups and also with lemon butter sauce since it has a delicate texture. It is popular in the warm summer months because its light texture doesn’t weigh down the stomach as much as a full-blown spaghetti type pasta can.

Third on the list would be Penne. This kind of pasta is in the shape of elongated tubes cut in a slant with ridges. Penne pasta is a hearty and rich meals and is often served with meat and pesto sauces for meatballs, chicken and even sausages. It is commonly used in casseroles recipe and cold pasta salads because the ridges hold on to the herbs and sauces very well.

Linguine is the fourth basic type of pasta. It is a long, straight and flat in design, the Linguine is a cousin of the spaghetti pasta. This type of pasta is used with tomato-based sauces especially with seafoods. Unlike other pastas, it is often sold dried in all Italian shops.
