Infertility and The Causes Behind It

There is nothing as painful as being able to bear children as a woman especially when it is all you want. Such a heartbreaking and helpless the situation causes a lot of stress and even goes to the extent of depression. The trauma and stigma of infertility can be quite the burden to bear and this explains the increasing number of fertility clinics. This number is also a reflection of the alarmingly many cases of infertility which begs the question of why it is happening. While this might be painful, every problem has a cause and can be explained; this case is not an exception. As painful as it might be, there is a cause and explanation for it just like with any other problem. With the increase in number of fertility consultations, research into this issue has been done extensively and possible explanations for different scenarios given. Having this information can be enlightening and might even help to solve some of the issues that might be the root of the problem.

The number one reason for infertility is hormonal irregularities. When you experience late, irregular, skipped and even several menstrual periods in a month, the most probable explanation is hormonal imbalances. Such irregularities also affect reproductive hormones and therefore cause infertility problems. Another explanation for hormonal imbalances is infected secreting glands with abnormal functioning. Still on the issue of hormonal imbalances, Polycystic ovary syndrome is also another closely related cause for infertility. In this particular case, the hormonal imbalance causes the formation cysts in the ovaries, which affects their normal functioning. The outcome is irregular periods or their lack thereof for long periods of time. With irregular periods, the probability of becoming pregnant decreases and even grows close to zero without periods.

Endometriosis is another cause of infertility where the uterus develops in other places. With this condition, the uterus may form in the ovaries or the fallopian tube. This is not only painful for most women, but also creates an environment that is unconducive and dangerous for a baby to develop in. The fallopian tube might also get blocked and therefore reduce the chances of pregnancy close to nothing. Thankfully, this condition can be treated by doing a surgery or taking medication. Similar to endometriosis, sexually transmitted infections also cause inflammation of the fallopian tube and may end up causing blockage as well. This is why testing for such infections is important before any attempts to get pregnant and this way any possible risks are averted. Other causes of infertility are obesity and being overweight. When someone is overweight, it is possible to conceive but then there is also a higher risk of miscarriages happening. This also applies to cases of age.
