How to Stop Being Hard on Yourself
Forgetting about the progress you have achieved and remembering every little misstate you made before is a normal thing. Dwelling on mistakes is not essential for us because it is one of the sources of depressions and other problems. In this article, I am going to speak about ways on how you can stop being so hard on yourself. One of the valuable parts of learning is making mistakes. You should not see it like you are the first one to make a mistake because they are done by everyone. In many cases, when you do not know how to do something or when you mess something up is when the mistakes happen. The most important thing is what you take away from the mistakes.
For you not to repeat mistakes, you should learn how to do things right after you have made a mistake. When you learn to do things right, that’s the valuable knowledge you gain when you make mistakes. The experiences should be remembered rather than dwelling on mistakes. When you do that, you will avoid repeating the same mistake next time. You should not compare yourself with other people if you would like to stop being hard on yourself. You will always be hard on yourself when you compare yourself with other people. For other people to be where they are today, they went through many things and also made some mistakes which you do not know and that’s why it is not right to compare yourself with them. You should not compare yourself with other people because some of them even invested for a long time for them to be successful.
Instead of comparing the goals of other people, you can also achieve your goals if only will set your own targets. Your past should not be your identity because everybody changes. The person you were last month is not the same one you are today if you are learning and growing. Because of that reason, you should not base your identity on someone you used to be. You are not defined by the mistakes you made in the past. Even if some of those mistakes were repeated, you would always see a way to correct them.
If you would like to stop being hard on yourself, the other thing you should do is being objective about your thoughts and emotions. Looking at your thoughts and emotions objectively is not an easy thing. You should ask yourself if you would say those things to another person when you are hard on yourself. It will be a good sign to stop being hard on yourself if you cannot say those things to them.
